Rush Hour II starring Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan is sort of a mixed bag. Partially a martial arts movie, but also, a comedy. This time they are in Hong Kong mixing it up with a Bad Guy. I know it sounds weird ,but it works. A laugh a minute, as they say. Packed with action.

Recommended for fans of Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan.

Gunner December 2007

Summed up, I’d say Rush Hour 2 is just as good, if not better, than the original Rush Hour. The movie, like most Jackie Chan flicks, contains the same GREAT ACTION, GREAT STUNTS and GREAT LAUGHS that you’ve come to expect from Jackie flicks. This one does not disappoint.

Much like the original Rush Hour, Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan continue that awesome chemistry they have that made the original such a HUGE hit. This time though the tables are slightly reversed as the flick picks up in Hong Kong (right where the original ended when they took their vacation) with Tucker being the fish out of water doing cultural and language faux paux in Hong Kong. The movie actually continues some of the storyline threads of the original referring back to Jackie’s (Inspector Lee’s) deceased father. The basic premise of the storyline has Jackie and Tucker (along with the U.S. Secret Service) tracking down a counterfeit dollar bill ring throughout Hong Kong and the U.S. all the way to Vegas (where else). Tons of laughs and loads of action are left in the wake of their trail.

Highlights: Loads of laughs as Chris Tucker tries to speak Chinese and sing karaoke. Tons of AWESOME fight scenes (in particular the massage parlor scene). Tons of HILARIOUS (albeit perhaps politically incorrect) repartee with Chris Tucker. Our heroes streaking through the streets of Hong Kong. Tons of beautiful women.

Things to Beware of: Chris Tucker’s mouth. While his tirades are often hilarious, some (like Roger Ebert) may find some the movies dialogue inappropriate (racist).

The End of Movie Bloopers: Of course being a Jackie Chan film, one of the distinct highlights of his movies are the end of movie bloopers. There are several goods ones in here, particularly a cell phone call and the big hint at the next Rush Hour flick (as was set-up in the closing scene of the movie).

Overall, it you are into Jackie Chan or Chris Tucker or Action Comedies or the first Rush Hour, you KNOW you’ll be seeing this one. You won’t be disappointed.

Highly Recommended.

When we first sat down to view this movie I wasn’t sure about it. How good could a movie be about a kid bullying ants; I was in for a wonderful surprise. We meet Lucas who is picked on by a bully himself and seems to take out his revenge on an ant community..why? Because he is bigger.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Ant Bully! Click Here

When the Wizard of the ant community comes up with a portion to shrink Lucas and it is decided he must learn how to live like an ant the fun begins. Lucas soon learns that working together can help you overcome no matter what size you are. It was just a really fun movie and one that my entire family enjoyed. I highly recommend it.

After puchasing many non-starter movies for my preschooler daughter, I’ve learned to use my Netflix membership to bounce new movies off her oh-so-fickle taste. “The Ant Bully” popped up in my New Releases category, so it got dropped in my queue without much thought or expectation.

What a complete surprise! The child *adored* this movie, and the writing is witty enough that I can watch it repeatedly. And by repeatedly, I mean over and over and over…. *sigh*

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Ant Bully! Click Here

The more I watch, and so far we’re up to eight times (ish), the more Bruce Campbell’s character steals the movie for me. Knowing the dialogue word-for-word hasn’t diminished the humor yet, and I doubt more viewings will either.

I absolutely recommend this movie for children. I didn’t hear anything inappropriate from Nicholas Cage’s character - he does have a very menacing ant-face once, but for the most part he’s just an anxious and neurotic ant. Perfect casting…

Enjoy!

My 21-mo-old daughter is absolutely obsessed with Elmo, so this 3-pack was the best DVD investment we ever made. Each DVD has three episodes of “Elmo’s World”, each episode focusing on a different topic.

Topics are:

Disc 1 - Jackets, Hats and Shoes

Disc 2 - Birthdays, Games and Pets

Anyone who has ever seen an episode of “Elmo’s World” will know what to expect. Every episode has the same format, so the ‘repitition’ criticized in an earlier review shouldn’t come as a surprise to a regular Elmo viewer. And, as each episode is at least 15 minutes long, I certainly wouldn’t expect an active toddler to sit through the entire disc (nearly 50 minutes).

So, if your child is a fan of the “Elmo’s World” segment at the end of every episode of Sesame Street, this collection is a must.

This set was a gift from my 4-yr-old son’s favorite auntie, and within a couple weeks we knew every line by heart. He just loves Elmo and the whole cast, who are each exciting and interesting as only a little, red, furry monster can be to a child. (Wait … that’s another episode … involving a parade …)

Anyway, Elmo is a great educational tool and my son’s personal favorite character in the known universe … well, it’s a tie between Elmo, Mr Noodle and Dorothy. And since my son has only been in the U.S. for two months and doesn’t speak much English yet, that is definitely saying something.

My highest recommendation.

I was little apprehensive buying this DVD sight unseen. I was afraid that this was going to be a collection of videos from the “Joshua Tree” album, with perhaps some stock footage thrown in to make it look like a documentary. I was pleasantly surprised.

The producers sat down recently (probably while making the new U2 album) with U2, Brian Eno, Daniel Lanois, and Flood and discussed in detail all that went into making this album. Bono and Lanois even play back the master tapes to show instumentations and vocals that weren’t included in the final mix. The Edge also breaks down the master for “Where the Streets Have No Name” and discusses how the song evolved, and shows all of the different guitar parts included in the final mix. I found the whole DVD fascinating.

I only wish that it had lasted longer (60 minutes). My hope is that maybe some of the magic that went into the production of “The Joshua Tree” will find it’s way onto the new album…

I must admit that I didn’t have high expectations for this DVD. I imagined a lot of old interviews and video footage of the band and not much else. However, when I watched the DVD, I was pleasantly surprised. This DVD was made in the last two years…interviewing all of U2, Flood, Daniel Lanois, Brian Eno, Steve Lillywhite and Paul McGuiness. There is also an interview with designer Steve Averill and photographer Anton Corbijn about the sleeve work. Lanois, Bono and Edge sit down at the mixing console and pull out the old 2″ recording tape to listen to the old mixes of many of the songs. I also found it humorous to watch Bono wince as he listened to some of his old vocal tracks from the album’s recording. Edge even pulls out the guitar and plays along to the end of With or Without You. He also plays the original 4 track recording of “Streets” that he made. There are also a great deal of unique short clips of the band…most notably one of U2 performing “Mothers of the Disapeared” in Chile (with some of the actual mothers of the disappeared) a couple years ago. Yes, it is short, but still worth the time and money. The DVD doesn’t cover all the songs, leaving out One Tree Hill, In God’s Country, Trip Through Your Wires and Red Hill Mining Town. It was interesting though to learn how songs like Exit and Mothers of the Disappeared were created. This DVD is a must for die-hard fans.

‘Two Brothers’, a UK-French film collaboration project under the direction of Jean-Jacques Annaud (known for ‘The Bear’ and ‘The Name of the Rose’) and written by Alain Godard and Annaud, is at once the heartwarming and heartwrenching tale of two Bengal tigers, While the advertising makes it seem like a Disney-esque film, this is not really one for younger children, so parents should beware. In today’s world there are many people who are not particularly nice toward wild animals; a hundred years ago, the time period during which this was set, there was even less regard for the great animals of the jungle, seen as objects for sport and amusement rather than creatures of integrity in their own right. I went with two adults, one of whom felt it necessary to leave the theatre for a brief while; there were children present in the theatre, and again I saw parents taking their children out at some of the more troublesome scenes - unfortunately, many didn’t return for the happy ending. This is a great film, worth five stars without doubt, but alas, the marketing is inappropriate, and would get a single star from me.

Guy Pearce plays the ‘great white hunter’ character of McRory, a world-famous hunter-explorer of European origin and fame, a known author as well as second-class Indiana Jones, looking for what will sell back in the London auction houses — he changes from animal skins and tusks to statues and antiquities. There are no other actors of wide fame, but all do a good job, from the Westerners in the French Indochine to the locals, from tribal persons to high potentates. All seem to have reasons to be against the tigers, save a few, who eventually come round and help the tiger brothers through their troubles.

The real stars of the film, of course, are the tiger cubs Kumal and Sangha, in addition to the other tigers, including the mother Tigress and the great Tiger Father. The lead trainer, Thierry Le Portier, a fellow Frenchman to Annuad who worked on ‘The Bear’, and trainer Randy Miller stated that 30 tigers in all were used, and one of the biggest efforts was to have tiger cubs available — they grow so rapidly, they might not be the same size over the course of shooting. In the end, the effects and training were magnificent, and given the kinds of harrowing treatment the tigers were to have received (usually, thankfully, just off-screen), one truly hopes the ‘no animals were harmed in this production’ pledge at the end was in earnest.

The plot is a twisty one, following the two tiger brothers who are separated early, and each have different adventures (not all of them nice, and many downright disturbing) until they are reunited in a festival, when they are able to recapture their kinship and their brotherly playfulness. The movie has the obligatory happy ending; I was on the verge of tears from frustration and sorrow at different points of the film, but the only time I actually did shed a tear was as the sunlight pierced the tell-tale marker on one of the tigers (and those who see the film will understand this, but I don’t want to give away the ending).

The settings in Cambodia and Thailand are natural settings, still undisturbed jungles in many areas, and the temple settings as the home of the tiger family is a wonderful device. The Angor Wat Temples, now very popular tourist destinations, had to be closed to such traffic during the filming. The music is dramatic and playful as appropriate, but very much in the background; rarely did I notice the music for the visuals.

A wonderful film in many ways, it is a statement for humane treatment of animals. Unfortunately, this sometimes involves disturbing scenes of mistreatment, which again makes this a film not for young children. Parental discretion and previewing is advised.

An absolutely beautiful movie, and a very moving story. Definitely a movie I will be recommending to everyone. As writer/director Annaud has commented, and as anyone who knows animals can tell you, tigers are intelligent, emotional creatures and the premise of “Two Brothers” is simple: the tigers want to live their lives in peace. The movie does not sugar-coat the way tigers have been treated (not that there is any on-screen gore) and so may prove to be an emotional roller-coaster for the sympathetic. Hopefully the richness and skill of the storytelling will reach out and make even more people sympathetic to their fellow creatures.

“Two Brothers” is beautifully photographed, and very intelligent in its depiction of the tigers. They even got the tigers’ vocalizations right–tigers have more of a vocabulary than most movie makers seem to know about, but Annaud got it right.

Favorite scenes: The woman reading typical early-20th-century “big game hunting adventures” to her son while he and the tiger cub snooze happily side-by-side, and the central human’s personal epiphany when he realizes that the animals he’s been hunting can think and love.

“Two Brothers” asks that you open your heart, and it rewards you greatly if you do. It absolutely deserves being called a “family movie”.

It’s astounding to me how distinguished more realisticly they tried to ground television series serve then. This expose imparticular went out of it’s method to stick upright to the comics it was based on, several major storylines were told in multi-part episodes too which is something I don’t survey as grand anymore. There are no special features on this state and though I’d obviously admire special features I’m willing to be gratified with unbiased the episodes if that’s all they’ll give us for now. I’m one of the people who hopes that pleasurable sales on these volumes will lead to the release of the others and possible special features in the future. I also hope that wonderful sales on these sets could lead to the release of Marvel’s 90’s Spider-man series in sets like this.

Having now found the time to peek the DVD I want to say for those wondering that the video quality is advance the same as I remember the current broadcast being. Any transfer issues are arrive unnoticeable to me and I am fairly particular about not being distracted by technical issues while watching my DVD. Obviously the animation quality is from the early nineties but really I fetch it surprisingly fairly on par with the unusual Wolverine and the X-men series. I found watching the episodes very nostalgic and gain myself enjoying them in a whole unusual intention now than I did when I was younger. I’m delighted to search for that the “Previously on X-men” openings are kept on the episodes and that the opening sequence and classic theme play before every episode unlike some other sets.

I also want to add that the box art is even better looking on the genuine region than it is online. It comes with a cardboard slipcover over the DVD with an elevated foil colored version of the artwork on the DVD. At least Disney really made these perceive professional in the packaging department.

For those tranquil wondering whether these sets are worth it I say acquire them or at least the first volume to test it out, it’s really only costing you a petite more than a dollar an episode for these. Anyways, I’m unprejudiced gay they’re releasing this series and hope they attain releasing the entire 76 episodes this draw (hopefully later on with some special features included) . After all this time X-Men finally rises from the ashes and is reborn on an official DVD, I can’t wait to rewatch the Gloomy Phoenix episodes that will be on the hopeful 3rd volume. Thanks For Your Time.

At last, one of the finest series ever to hit animation has reach home to us. Marvel’s X Men the Gripping Series Vols 1 & 2 bring to life the silly book as few other series did. These volumes, especially the second, show the depth of these characters and the dazzling animation quality that made this series a hit. I am ecstatic to add these to my library.

But let us be positive, here. The first volume finishes into the second season. The second volume takes us through the rest of season two and into season three. But the second volume does NOT complete the third season.

And that leaves us with and unfinished season three, PLUS season four and five! Granted, after the Unlit Phoenix Saga the episodes were shown more randomly and few were in order. However now we should encourage with further DVDS that allow us to spy the remaining shows in order.

So I abet everyone to purchase Vol 1&2 but realize there must be more to near. PLEASE RELEASE THE REMAINING EPISODES. For us, the X-Men proper followers, if you release it, we will seize and thank you.

Mel Gibson’s Maverick is somewhat goofy but charming, sly, and fairly comical.

A number of friendly cameos provide some amusing relief, especially Danny Glover arrive the beginning of the movie. The biggest surprise for me was Jodie Foster, who, in an impressively rare comedic role, thankfully discards her repetoire of facial tics for a worthy more natural performance here.

The state is kept attractive simple until come the waste — and the ruin has a substantial twist, which I won’t bellow. Suffice it to say that your time will be well spent.

Recommended rental for positive, but also think buying this gracious DVD because this comedy does well with relate viewing.

Maverick is a hilarious, appetizing and fun film to inspect and bears well over several viewings. Of course, how could this film have missed given its cast; Mel Gibson, James Garner, Jodie Foster, James Coburn and a whole slew of other stars to include an outrageously comic cameo by Danny Glover. The more moving thing here is that James Garner played Brett Maverick when it was a television series many moons ago and he had turned down many film scripts for this one where he didn’t even play the lead. Maverick is a titanic hit and all enthusiastic in making this ravishing western/comedy deserve all of the accolades they received for it!

The premise:

Bert, oops I mean Brett Maverick (Mel Gibson) is a card playing and snappily drawing hustler who is on his intention to obedient used St. Louis for a mountainous poker tournament. His main pickle is that he’s three thousand dollars short of the entry fee so he decides to terminate in another town and play another round of poker in the hopes of picking up some of the three thousand he needs. This is where he meets Annabelle Branford played by the ever exquisite Jodie Foster. Mrs. Branford’s beauty is matched only by her desire to lift up the money to enter the astronomical poker game as well. Not too long afterwards we meet Zane Cooper (James Garner) who is a lawman of some fame and he impartial happens to be going the same draw as Maverick and Mrs. Branford. What follows is most definitely one of the most hilarious westerns ever made. I would highly recommend this film to any and all fans of the stars and this genre.

I first saw this suspense/spy thriller when it was first released in the theaters sometime in the late 1970s, while living in London and working for the American government. There’s nothing that compares with the paranoia associated with seeing a taut spy thriller, only to exit the theater into a cold, foggy late evening in downtown London. The picture it paints of a murderous renegade network operating within the Central Intelligence Agency is both frightening and plausible, and is delivered by Robert Redford and his production team in a tight, well-developed tale with a convincing thread of interconnecting events that spins way out of control as the protagonist tries desperately to figure out who is at the center of the plot and why he and his cohorts at a special studies institute sponsored by the Agency are targets. For me, this movie is a nonstop roller-coaster ride, with Redford trying in vain to jump off the damn thing before it crashes below!

The level of paranoia as well as the multiple levels of deceit and deception depicted in the film seemed a bit outlandish at the time, but given the temper of the times, it somehow seemed much more plausible in the backwash of Watergate and all that was revealed about the machinations of the so-called “invisible government” then. The hero’s ability to parse together the facts and learn and adapt as he progresses makes the movie work especially well, and one can relate to his growing frustration as he realizes there just may not be any way out alive. And between the margins of the scenes lie some intriguing questions regarding the role of secrecy in an open and supposedly democratic society that add a measure of intellectual acumen and “gravitas” to the tale.

So popular was this movie at the box office that it spawned a number of other spy thrillers in its wake. The film’s cast included not only Redford as the hero, but also starred Fay Dunaway, and Cliff Robertson. This movie makes for an absorbing evening of entertainment, and a surefire way to escape the humdrum of everyday life with a stunning tale of murder, mayhem, and betrayal. I highly recommend this flick. Enjoy!

What is it about this movie that makes it so compelling? After countless viewings, I still can’t put my finger on it — but let’s consider the crucial elements of “Condor.”

First, the paucity of dialogue — in other words, what Redford displays and emotes rather than says — is powerful. It seems that for the first time in his career, Redford is really challenged to act instead of being just another pretty cinematic face. If ever a man could give the impression of being both haunted and hunted, Redford’s a cinch in “Condor.”

This is also a great New York City film. Its streets, back alleys, and buildings — in particular, the World Trade Center — all play supporting roles. Sidney Pollack makes good use of the then-newly finished twin towers in “Condor,” and this viewer lamented their destruction after watching scenes featuring the main lobby and a top-floor office inhabited by CIA deputy director Cliff Robertson.

The grainy quality of the film, matched with an often funky, sometimes melancholy soundtrack scored by Dave Grusin, also adds to the aura of “Condor.” It’s as if Pollack attempted to do an American sendup of a French intrigue film. Grusin’s music also is not what you’d expect in a spy film, in that it has not a hint of the James Bond sound. Then again, the film is not a romantic spy thriller, so it works.

In fact, Pollack and Redford successfuly convey a post-Watergate paranoia that the citizens’ government is ‘out there’ and will stop at nothing to hunt down the truth-seeking rogue. Phone taps and plumbers (disguised, this time, as mailmen) abound. Suitably, “Three Days of the Condor” ends with a very anti-establishment message.

This film deserves to be placed in the list of top twenty great American films of the modern cinematic era (however one judges that). “Condor” is good the first time around and seems to be more enjoyable with subsequent viewings. Far from being a period piece, it stands the test of time as a thriller that is also thoughtful.

I must admit, that as of recent I have enjoyed current mainstream movies regardless if they are released to the theater or directly to video so I can abase them. In other words, I truly find pleasure in ripping movies apart. It has been my perception, my perception, that about 70% of movies made in the past 5 to 6 years are horrid.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Rambo! Click Here

One might ask why I feel this way, well it is rather simple. Most movies are a plug in for a new phone, car or maybe to promote a soundtrack. These movies also rely more on special effects and visual stimulation, where acting, directing and story take the backseat. Therefore, movies (for the most part) in modern times are nothing more than a 90 to 100 minute commercial.

Then of course there are the movies that are so over the top they are just down right silly. This is the perception I had when I saw the trailer for “Rambo” (it was titled “John Rambo” when I first viewed it on the internet). I thought, “What the hell is Stallone thinking”? I didn’t see the most recent “Rocky”, but I heard it wasn’t any good. I didn’t really care too much about the quality of a new “Rocky” movie, but I felt like there was nothing else to do and all doors were closed when “Rocky 5″ was made. Why was Stallone going back to Rocky? Was there a point to it? Now he is going to make another Rambo movie, why? Both these characters whose names start with “R” make a return after not being seen for almost 20 years?

Buy,Download, Or Stream Rambo! Click Here

I digress to the trailer for Rambo I saw on the internet. I was laughing so hard I couldn’t take it. The way this movie was presented was comical. I had said to my brother and some friends, “I can’t wait to see this movie, I need a good laugh”. Then the day came, it was a work night (the same as a school night, but you go to work early the next day instead of school) and I went to a 9:40pm showing with my brother and two of our friends. I was so pumped and all four of us were ready to laugh very hard. As a side note, this is the first time I had been in a movie theater to watch a new release in a very long time.

We watched and we absorbed this movie and when the end credits rolled and the lights came back on in the theater we were speechless. I thought this was the first wonderful and moving film I had seen in a long time. (So did everyone else in my view party.) I couldn’t believe it. I have seen all the other Rambo films and yes they were entertaining, but I wouldn’t say they were deep or compelling pieces of cinema. This new Rambo movie had something to say.

It followed a different format, it seemed more dramatic and the violence (there was plenty of it) was brutal and candid. When I say candid, I mean that many of things that happened in this movie, happens in the real world.

The plot of this film is rather simple, Rambo now lives in Southeastern Asia near Burma and some American humanitarians need a guide and ride by boat to provide health care, food and education to the poor people in the area. They find John Rambo and after some persuasions from a female team member (Julie Benz) Rambo signs on.

Consequently, there is a large militant and fundamental group that has nothing better to do than torture and massacre the less fortunate people in their country. It doesn’t take a wizard to figure out what happens next, Rambo, guns, violence, death, and blah, blah, blah. However, the violence doesn’t seem to be moot or without justification if that makes sense. The best comparison I can make is to “Saving Private Ryan”, the violence in that film was graphic and at times over the top, but made a point to portray the reality that was World War 2. “Rambo” has the exact type of feel to it with respect to violence being graphic, over the top and making a point. Mind you I am not saying that “Rambo is a better film or as good as “Saving Private Ryan”, but it was used more as a frame of reference. Oddly enough, “Saving Private Ryan” came out in 1998 and “Rambo” came out ten years later (2008), perhaps in 2018 there will be another violent film with a message.

Stallone did a good job too in this film he gave a rather minimal performance, not much dialogue but did display a level of dichotomy towards his emotions to events in the plot. I felt the story was also simplistic, but it worked, the movie didn’t need a multi-leveled storyline. I also felt the direction of the film was very good too; by the way Sly wrote and directed this movie.

“Rambo” was a motion picture that stirred myriad thoughts in my head when it was over. It made me think how revolting and disgusting it is that there are still countries in the world that can’t get health care or are being “controlled” and/or restricted to certain living conditions by a dictatorship or totalitarian government that results to violence or casualties of human lives. It also made me think how insane it is that U.S. presidential candidates are able to raise thousands, if not millions, of dollars for their campaigns, but when they get into office, it then becomes difficult to “raise” money for the things they promised before they were the incumbent. Then I thought about how everyone wants to go “green” and save the environment, yet it costs more money and there is less tax breaks to “go green”. Not to mention Earth Day is only one day a year, rather than year long recognition. What about relying on fossil fuel when there are other forms of fuel for our cars/machines? Or that many people are more up to date with Reality Television than what is going on in the world.

In conclusion, I am not sure this was Sylvester Stallone’s intention to stir the pot of modern social sciences or in my case promote schizophrenia when making this movie. However, I felt this film didn’t pull any punches and says a lot about the world we live in, on many levels. I recommend this film to anyone who wants an eye opening experience. This is a lot coming from a person who thought this movie was going to be the number one unintentional comedy of 2008 and now believes it was one of the best movies made in a very long time.

Sly, I commend you.

Of all the Rambo movies this one is the best. The most violent, brutal stunning movie I have ever seen. Emotionally draining story of some do gooders that want to take medicine and help to a group of poor opressed people in Burma. They are under control of the brutal military that wants no one to hear this story let alone help these people. The do gooders talk Rambo into taking them up river to the settlement. He is reluctant to take them but the woman with the group talks him into taking them. Of course they are taken by the military and most everyone in the village is slaughtered. Someone from back home comes looking for them when they never return home. Rambo takes a band of merceneries to the settlement to bring them back. The do-gooders are held captive and tortured. It’s nonstop heartpounding action after Rambo gets there.

Iv’e never seen anything like the violence in this movie. It’s incredible.

It’s filmed in Burma and the cinemaphotography is outstanding. Beautiful scenery. Good use of light and dark and camera angles. Very well done.

Be prepared for the violence because it is extreme. What’s shown in this movie is going on there as I speak. We don’t hear the story in the media. Stallone made this movie with Burmese people as actors and they were all at risk making this movie. Stallone still has it at 61 years.

If you don’t like Rambo then don’t bother. Otherwise it’s highly entertaining!
